Somebody sold you a story.

The story says your life is hard because of a Malawian. It is a lie. It is a cheap lie. And the men who sold it to you got paid.

This book gives you the numbers to throw back. Every answer has links. Click them. Check them yourself. Do not trust me either, because trusting a man's word without checking is exactly how you got here.

Keep this on your phone.

One thing before we start. This guide is not against South Africans. South Africans were robbed. In daylight. By their own government. For thirty years. Your anger is right. Your target is wrong. That is the entire guide.

The last page — who this is for

The man marching against you is not your enemy. Read this guide again if you still think he is, because that means it failed.

He was born into a school where eight out of ten children cannot read. He was handed a certificate that averages a third and sent into an economy with 8.1 million people already in the queue. The clinic that was supposed to keep his mother alive was looted before he could walk. The same government failed him over the same thirty years, often in the same province, at the same school, down the same broken road. He is not marching because he is evil. He is marching because he is robbed, and the men who robbed him got to him first, with a cheap explanation that cost them nothing to give and won them everything.

His anger is not the problem. His anger is the most honest thing in this whole country. The problem is the address it was given.

So here is what this guide is actually for.

You will not reach the leaders. They are not confused, they are employed. The anger is their salary, and no fact in this guide will ever cost them more than it pays them. Do not waste your evenings on them.

You will not reach the burners either, the ones already holding the petrol. A man in a mob is not listening, and no page here is worth your life. Walk away from those.

You are here for the middle. The cousin who shares the posts but has never checked one. The taxi full of people repeating a number that does not exist. The colleague who says "I am not xenophobic, but" and has never once been answered properly, calmly, with a source, by somebody who did not call him stupid first. That person has never met a real number in his life. Every statistic he owns was handed to him by somebody who was selling something.

Be the first person who ever put a real one in front of him.

Not with a lecture. With a question. Where did you get that number? Who counted it? Then the figure, then the link, then silence. Let him sit with it. You will lose the argument that day and win it three weeks later, in his own head, where all arguments are actually won.

And when he finally asks you the real question, the one under all the others, "then who took it?", you point.

Not at Nigeria. Not at Zimbabwe. Not across the border at all.

At the school that could not teach him to read. At the names in the report nobody marched on. At the vault he was guarding for free.

One number, one person, one taxi ride at a time. That is the whole method. That is the whole guide. The lie needed six years and a budget to build. The truth only needs somebody who will not shut up.
